It makes me want to smash the console with a sledgehammer. Now I know again, why I hated this method of installing Free Mcboot. I took out my PS2 and tried some drives with AR-Max – this gave mixed results. Suggestion: Try some different drives, preferably old ones – and make sure you use FAT16 or FAT32 filesystem and MBR partition table.
